Nancy Oviatt

Nancy is a 1983 graduate of Augustana University and a 1986 graduate of the University of South Dakota School of Law. She clerked for Senior United States District Court Judge Andrew W. Bogue in Rapid City, SD, for two years before joining the firm in 1988.

The primary areas of focus in her practice are estate planning, trust/estate administration, guardianships, real estate and family law. She also serves as legal counsel to the Bishop of the Dakotas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and has done so since 1989. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section of the State Bar of South Dakota and is a member of the American Bar Association.

Community service has included leadership roles in Watertown Kiwanis Club, Codington County Heritage Museum, Watertown Area United Way and her church. Nancy currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Nancy and her husband Blair have two adult children. Travel, yoga, music and summer at Lake Kampeska top her list of other interests.

John D. Knight 

John is 1982 Graduate of South Dakota State University and a 1986 Graduate of the University of South Dakota School of Law. John joined the firm in 2018 after practicing in Clear Lake, South Dakota. John is a trial lawyer with over 30 years of experience trying cases in most counties in eastern South Dakota. John’s areas of practice include Personal Injury, Civil Litigation, Business Formation, Real Estate, Adoption and Family Law.

John is the elected Deuel County States Attorney and has 25 years of service in that office. John is a member and former Board Member of the South Dakota Trial Lawyers. He has also served as a board member and President of Clear Lake Kiwanis, Deuel Area Development, Inc. and the Prairie Lakes Healthcare Foundation.

John currently lives in Clear Lake, SD with his wife Susan and their four kids. His interests include hunting, hiking, spending time at their lake cabin, regularly building something and cooking something great for his friends and family.

Tim Cummings

Tim is a 1985 graduate of the University of South Dakota and a 1988 graduate of Drake University Law School. After a two-year clerkship with the Third Judicial District in Minnesota, he joined the firm in 1991. The primary areas of his practice are criminal law, family law and civil litigation.

Tim is a Director on the Board of Directors for East River Legal Services. Tim and his spouse, Renee, have four children. Tim enjoys all sports, following his children in their activities, and travel.

Tom is a 1991 graduate of South Dakota State University and a 1994 graduate of the University of South Dakota School of Law. After a one-year South Dakota circuit court clerkship, he joined the firm in 1995. Primary areas of practice include business planning and litigation, estate planning and probate, family law, real estate, and collections. He also serves as a mediator upon request of parties or attorneys concerning cases that are within his primary areas of practice.

In 2019, Tom completed his sixth year as a member (and former President) of the Board of Education for the Watertown School District. Tom has served on the controlling boards of several local organizations. He has one adult son. Tom’s interests include watching all sports, reading and raising cattle.
